The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has launched an initiative for Christmas 2016 called “#LIGHTtheWORLD.”
Elder David A. Bednar introduced this Initiative on Newsroom Canada on November 25, 2016. In it, he said, “A global effort to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and encourage people to serve others during the Christmas season is being launched by The Church f Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The “Light the World” Christmas initiative will reach worldwide audiences from Friday, November 25, 2016, through January 1, 2017, and focuses on celebrating and sharing the light of Jesus Christ, the “light of the world” (John 8:12).
“As we follow the example of the Savior and live as He lived and as He taught, that light will burn within us and will light the way for others,” said President Thomas S. Monson in a general conference address titled “Be an Example and a Light” in October 2015 .
The “Light the World” video is available on mormon.org and in the Gospel Library app beginning November 25 for viewing and downloading in 29 languages including Albanian, Armenian, Cebuano, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, and Ukrainian.
Invite your friends to visit Mormon.org/christmas, which will be available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, to learn more about the #LIGHTtheWORLD initiative and associated activities.
As a part of this initiative an activity program called “In 25 Ways over 25 Days” has been developed. Each day in December, the Advent Activity Calendar focuses on a different Christlike behaviour and provides suggestions for ways we can emulate His example. There are brief accompanying videos on Mormon.org/christmas that help explain the Advent Activity Calendar and provide ideas for activities.
