Day 3 Jesus Helps Others to See and So Can You

25 Ways in 25 Days - Mekaiah Earl (representing Edmonton & Northern Alberta Social Media Team)

Ever since we got married almost seven years ago, my husband and I have been students. Though our financial situation has been in varying degrees of flow throughout those seven years, we have always made it a point that at Christmas time, we look outside of ourselves and find a way we can serve someone in greater need than us. It has blessed me personally because I find that I will be counting the blessings in my own life- at a time when it could be very easy to feel left out by all the things we can't have, based on society's definition.  It helps me to focus on the love that God has for my little family, and how, even though we don't have much, we have so much more than many, and we feel richly blessed. Last year, we were approached by an old companion of my husbands who lives in a developing country and wasn't able to cover the cost of a medical procedure there for a member of his family. It gave me a lot to reflect on, and as we did research and spoke with others, it became clear that even the little we could give, would be a substantial help. For me, it was an extreme example of my physical blessings, things that I completely take for granted. Usually, though, the service we give isn't very big, and would most likely be considered quite simple. But I have found that by giving this purposeful service, by sacrificing a little of ourselves for someone else, especially during this season, it allows me to feel the Spirit as our family focuses on the Saviour's example
